The Vision for Stonewater

The WHY

Youth Dynamics is blessed to steward the 158-acre property near Leavenworth, Washington, called Stonewater, for spiritual, physical, and relational development. The heart of Stonewater is the desire to encourage youth to discover life in Christ by using adventure and creation to inspire growth and transformation. Stonewater is available for youth and adults with a wide range of adventures, camping, and retreat options.

The overall goal for completing the Stonewater Renovation Campaign projects is to increase ministry capacity and guest experience. Stonewater hosts thousands of youth and adults throughout the year, and we want to set the stage for a great experience.

The buildings located on the property were initially built in the late 1970s and designed for a group home for boys with house parents to live in full-time. The intended use for those buildings now is different and requires renovation and expansion. Since acquiring the property in 2006, Youth Dynamics has added an Adventure Center and a woodworking and mechanic shop. However, the Chalet and Lodge have had only minor updates.

Now is the time to invest in the property of Stonewater and renovate it specifically for how Youth Dynamics powerfully impacts lives through relational adventure youth ministry.

Phase One: Completed

This phase began when Youth Dynamics acquired the property in 2005. In this phase, the goal is to address delayed maintenance areas/projects and add key infrastructure for ministry use. Projects in this phase include:

  • Waster System – Repair
  • Adventure Center – New
  • Maintenance Shop – New
  • Challenge Course – New
  • Septic System – Upgrade
  • Campground – Improvements
  • Recreation Center – Renovation
  • Driveway – Improvement
  • Barn – Updates
  • Duplex – Renovation
  • Misc: Reroof office, landscaping, utility installation

Phase Two: current

To help facilitate this renovation and growth, we are taking a multi-stage approach to reduce the impact on ministry. These stages will be completed based on financial resources, building permits, and staff capacity.

Chalet: Renovation and Expansion

RENOVATION: This project includes relocating the kitchen, updating all bathrooms to provide more privacy, opening the front room to accommodate larger groups, and redesigning the lower floor to be more practical. This phase also includes updated built-in audio, visual, and sound equipment for presentations and vaulting the ceilings to make the space feel more spacious with better acoustics. The exterior of the Chalet will go through a significant transition by transforming the dated Bavarian style to match our Pacific Northwest theme. New siding and paint scheme, decorative stones, new windows and doors, updating the deck, new landscaping, outdoor signage, and lighting will finish the first phase of the Chalet renovation.

EXPANSION: This project includes replacing the carport with a solid foundation to accommodate the second-story expansion. Update the current guest rooms and add more rooms to increase the overall occupancy from 40 to 65 beds. In addition to updating the existing upstairs bathroom, the expansion includes adding a second large bathroom allowing co-ed groups to have designated bathrooms. The exterior will continue the Pacific Northwest style theme and include a newly designated entryway to the Chalet. In addition to providing a designated entrance, the gable roof line will protect against the constant snow dangers Stonewater experiences in the winter. Completing the landscaping will conclude this phase of the project.

Lodge

Although the Lodge requires less renovation, it desperately needs updating as it feels like you step back 50 years upon entering. The Lodge is 4,800 square feet, and its primary use is as a welcoming retreat space for small to mid-sized groups, up to 32 people. Retreats range from one night up to seven days. The Lodge is also an ideal facility to house our Stonewater Adventure Bible School students. The Stonewater Adventure Bible School is our newest ministry training and discipleship program for young adults, which equips students for ministry in the future, both in Youth Dynamics and beyond. The Lodge is uniquely set apart to provide a quiet study and meeting space.

Main Cabin

Built in the 1980s, the 1,500-square-foot log cabin is currently used as a long-term staff house designed for families working full-time at Stonewater.
Although minor updates have been done over the years, some issues need to be addressed for this cabin to remain a functional part of the property. Many exterior logs are weathered and rotted and need restoration.

Property Infrastructure and Navigation

The scope of work for improved navigation includes updating and adding clear signage for the entrance to Stonewater and better directional signage to guide guests staying either at the Chalet or the Lodge. Adding strategic landscaping and lighting for paths that foster safe navigation is also needed and will significantly increase the property’s overall aesthetic. Over half of our guests come to the property and camp in one of five scenic campgrounds where much of our adventure-based ministry is launched. From there, guests explore the property and participate in the many adventures offered at Stonewater. Although these projects are less visible to the guests, vital infrastructure is needed to improve the overall guest camping experiences.

Phase Three: future

  • 7 Guest Cabins
  • 3 Staff Cabins
  • Intern House
  • Bathhouse

Phase Four: future

  • Stonewater Lodge
